After a great night sleep that I obviously did not want to give up considering I slept in until 9am, I headed over to Memphis for my weekly shopping. I stopped for gas before I crossed the bridge and was amazed to see the Exxon was out of gas which made me wonder what would happen if we ran out of gas at all the gas stations....if that happened I obviously would not be going to Memphis.
I love the Walmart at Wolfchase...for one simple reason. They have more than two lanes open and the checkout employees actually seem to enjoy working there. Then I headed to the mall with the intent to purchase two dresses - one for me and my daughter Brooke for my brother-in-law's wedding August 7th.
Dresses in hand I decided to treat myself to a movie which I do about once a month. I like to go see movies alone sometimes and it is great to do it in the afternoons because there are so few people. I never go see movies my husband would want to see - this is my time to go see a movie just for me. I actually like going to see movies that I know nothing about -The best movie I have ever seen I knew nothing about. The title escapes me at this moment....It was about a mathematician who won the Nobel Prize I believe for his theories on economics. He had schizophrenia, a condition that was not revealed until the latter part of the movie. I watched this movie unaware of who this man was and that he was ill so I believed as he did that he was involved in some form of conspiracy. Talk about a great movie-going experience. I think sometimes when we tell people how great movies are we build up the expectations and then sometimes the movie does not deliver. Do you want to enhance your movie going experience? Rent or go to a movie with no prior knowledge of the plot.
For that matter read a book without previewing what the book is about. I order the Reader's Digest Condensed Versions monthly book. You get four condensed novels for about $25.00. I love to read these stories straight on without reading the inside cover of the book. You are totally at the mercy of the author to reveal the plot. Try it sometime and see if it doesn't totally increase your reading pleasure.
Perhaps one reason why I enjoy being entertained without knowing what the heck is going to happen is because it seems that every aspect in my life is planned and somewhat under my control. It is nice to sit back sometimes and let someone else call the shots whether it be a movie or a book...I am passive and open minded and entertained every single time.
By the way if you happen to know the title of the movie I was referring to please tell me in the comment box....it is on the tip of my tongue but I can't recall it and that drives me crazy!
I believe you are referring to "A Beautiful Mind" with Russell Crow.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, not having preconceived notions of something can be a VERY good thing.
